Microsoft Build 2025: From Copilot upgrades to new AI features, here’s everything Microsoft announced at its developer event

At the Build 2025 keynote, Microsoft has made several new announcements and updates. Here's everything the company has announced.

Microsoft Build

Microsoft held its biggest developer event of the year Build 2025 and as predicted, it was all about artificial intelligence. The company announced a series of updates and tools that show just how serious it is about making AI a part of every digital experience, whether you're writing code, running a business, building websites, or even working in a research lab.

Here are the key announcements:

Smarter tools for developers

You’ve probably heard of GitHub Copilot, the tool that helps developers write code by suggesting lines as they type. Now, Copilot is getting even smarter. Microsoft is turning it into a full-fledged AI assistant that can handle tasks on its own.

Instead of just giving you suggestions in your code editor, this new version of Copilot lives on the GitHub platform itself and works asynchronously. That means it can perform coding tasks for you in the background, even when you're not actively typing.

Windows and Azure get AI upgrades

Microsoft also announced the Windows AI Foundry. It is like a toolkit for developers who want to build and run AI models, especially those using open-source technologies or their own custom models. Whether you want to process images or build chatbots, this platform supports it and works across devices and the cloud.

For cloud developers, there’s Azure AI Foundry, which comes with tools to help pick the right AI models and even test how well they perform. Microsoft is also bringing in models from Elon Musk’s AI company, xAI, like Grok 3 and Grok 3 Mini.

AI agents that are safer and more capable

We’re now entering the world of AI agents, small programs powered by AI that can perform specific tasks. Microsoft is making it easier to build these agents, make them work together, and keep them secure.

For instance, there's a new Agent Service inside Azure AI Foundry that supports multi-agent systems, connects to tools like SharePoint, and even lets you use models from other cloud providers. Microsoft also added observability tools, so developers can track how these agents are performing, how accurate they are, how much they cost to run, and whether they're doing what they're supposed to.

To keep things secure, Microsoft introduced Agent ID—a unique identity for every AI agent, managed through Microsoft Entra. It helps companies avoid “agent sprawl,” where they lose track of which agents are doing what.

Bringing AI into Microsoft 365

If your company uses tools like Word, Excel, or Teams, there’s good news. Microsoft is now letting businesses train their own Copilots using company-specific data and workflows. This feature, called Copilot Tuning, means your AI assistant can now write documents or generate content in your team’s style and language.

And with a new multi-agent orchestration feature in Copilot Studio, companies can create several agents that work together—kind of like a team of digital assistants solving complex problems in sync.

Making the web AI-friendly

Microsoft wants the internet to work better with AI, so it launched a new open protocol called NLWeb. In simple terms, it allows websites to be more “chatty.” Instead of clicking buttons, you could just type or say what you need, and the site would understand.

They're also supporting something called MCP (Model Context Protocol), which helps AI tools remember context better. That means smarter responses, whether you’re coding, chatting with a Copilot, or browsing.

AI for scientific discovery

Finally, Microsoft introduced a platform called Discovery, aimed at scientists and researchers. The goal is to speed up how new products or ideas are developed, using the power of AI. Whether you're working on a new medicine or developing climate models, this platform could shorten the time from idea to solution.
