Mediatek announces new Dimensity 8400 chipset, set to power Redmi Turbo 4

MediaTek has announced its latest smartphone processor, the Dimensity 8400, which promises to deliver top-tier performance with advanced artificial intelligence (AI) features. The chipset is expected to debut in premium smartphones, starting with the Redmi Turbo 4, by the end of 2024.

Key features of Dimensity 8400

The Dimensity 8400 builds on MediaTek's flagship Dimensity 9400 and introduces an "All Big Core" CPU design to the premium segment. This setup includes an eight-core Arm Cortex-A725 processor clocked at up to 3.25GHz. MediaTek claims the chip provides 41% better multi-core performance and uses 44% less peak power than its predecessor, the Dimensity 8300.

For gaming enthusiasts, the chip features an Arm Mali-G720 GPU, which is 24% faster and 42% more power-efficient than the previous generation. It is supported by MediaTek's Frame Rate Converter (MFRC) for smoother gameplay and Adaptive Gaming Technology (MAGT) 3.0, which optimizes performance in real-time.

A key highlight of the Dimensity 8400 is its focus on next-generation AI. It includes MediaTek’s NPU 880, enabling tasks like language translation, contextual replies, media generation, and more. The chipset also features MediaTek's Dimensity Agentic AI Engine, which allows developers to create applications that adapt to user preferences and anticipate their needs.

Photography enthusiasts will benefit from the built-in Imagiq 1080 image signal processor (ISP). It uses advanced QPD remosaic technology to capture brighter, clearer images with faster focus. The chip also supports HDR video recording across zoom levels for high-quality videos.

Other features include support for 5G connectivity with download speeds of up to 5.17Gbps, smooth switching between 5G and Wi-Fi for better efficiency, and display resolutions up to WQHD+ with a 144Hz refresh rate.

MediaTek aims to redefine smartphone experiences with this new chipset by combining powerful AI tools, improved gaming performance, and advanced photography capabilities, making it an exciting addition to the mobile market.
