MakeMyTrip has launched a major upgrade to its virtual assistant Myra. The assistant can, as per the company, now go beyond suggestions to complete bookings — all through conversational voice or text, in both Hindi and English. The new Myra is built to assist users at every stage of the travel cycle — discovery, planning, booking, and post-sale support, and more, as per MakeMyTrip.
How it works
Instead of just throwing up hotel suggestions or flight deals, Myra can understand complex user queries like: “Mujhe August mein bachchon ke saath relaxing holiday chahiye” or “South India ka roadtrip route batao” and respond with personalised, real-time recommendations — including price, availability, and routes — and take the user straight to booking.
According to MakeMyTrip, this human-like conversation system is powered by a network of specialised AI agents across categories like flights, hotels, trains, forex, visas, and transport. It supports multimodal input — text, voice, images, video — and even lets users modify itineraries or raise post-sale queries in the same chat.
Furthermore, MakeMyTrip said that it wants to open up travel to millions of Indians uncomfortable with English or traditional app interfaces. By bringing AI to voice, and soon to multiple Indian languages, it’s targeting the next 500 million users.
CTO Sanjay Mohan called it “one of the most ambitious tech builds” at MMT, and CEO Rajesh Magow said this could “reach the deepest corners of Bharat.”
The beta version of Myra is live now, with further upgrades — including AI use cases for images and semantic search — coming soon.
