As cyber threats continue to evolve, the Indian government is ramping up its efforts to protect citizens’ digital devices. Through the Cyber Swachhta Kendra initiative, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) is promoting the use of eight key tools to secure smartphones, laptops, and desktops from malware, bots, and other online threats. These tools are free to download and cater to both Windows and Android users.

Tools for Windows users
To remove bots and harmful malware from Windows systems, the government recommends three antivirus solutions:
• eScan Antivirus
• K7 Securit
• Quick Heal

Tools for Android users
Android users also have access to bot-removal solutions. The government currently endorses:
• eScan Antivirus (for Android)

For broader mobile security, the M-Kavach 2 application is recommended. This tool offers security features tailored for smartphones, including app management, anti-theft features, and protection from malicious apps or links. It helps users take control of their device’s security in a simple, centralized way.

Other essential security toolsBeyond antivirus software, three additional tools are part of this initiative:
• USB Pratirodh – A tool designed to control unauthorised USB access and prevent malware spread through external drives.
• AppSamvid – A desktop application whitelisting tool that ensures only approved applications can run on a system.
• Browser JSGuard – A browser extension that protects users from harmful JavaScript and potential exploits during web browsing.

By encouraging the public to use these eight tools, the Indian government aims to strengthen the country’s cyber hygiene and create a safer digital environment for all. These tools are free to use and available for download through the Cyber Swachhta Kendra platform.
