Different ways to transfer your data from old iPhone to new iPhone
Method 1: Restore from iCloud backup
One of the simplest ways to transfer your data is to restore from an iCloud backup during the new iPhone’s setup process.
- During setup, when prompted, select “Restore from iCloud Backup.”
- Log in with your Apple Account (formerly known as Apple ID before iOS 18).
- Pick the most recent backup from your old iPhone. If your backup is more than a day or two old, it is advisable to create a new one.
- On your old iPhone, open the Settings app, use the Search field to locate “iCloud Backup,” tap the matching result, and select “Back Up Now” to update the backup.
- Once the backup is selected, your new iPhone will restore your settings and preferences. The process typically takes about 15 minutes, while apps and other data download in the background.
- After the restore is complete, you will need to sign back into your accounts within the various apps.
Method 2: Apple direct transferIf you do not have a recent iCloud backup or are experiencing slow internet connectivity, you can opt for a direct transfer between devices.
- During the new iPhone setup, choose the direct transfer option when prompted by Quick Start.
- Ensure that both your old and new iPhones are nearby, plugged in, and connected to Wi-Fi. This transfer method can take over an hour depending on the amount of data.
- To speed up the process, connect both devices with a USB cable. Note that if your current phone is an iPhone 14 or earlier with a Lightning port, you may need an adapter.
- The devices will display an estimated time remaining for the transfer to complete.
This method bypasses the need for an iCloud backup and directly transfers data from one device to the other.
Method 3: Use a Mac or PC
For users who prefer using a computer, transferring your data via an encrypted backup from a Mac or PC is a reliable option.
