How cool is too cool? Government wants you to tell what’s the right AC temperature for you

The Indian government is seeking public input on the ideal AC temperature through a survey on mygov.in, open until March 25, 2025.

For years, the government has been pushing 24 degrees as the default AC temperature for effective cooling and efficiency to keep the electricity bill in check. However, it looks like the Indian government and the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) want to make some changes to this and understand the user's opinion on the ideal AC temperature that works best for them – both in terms of cooling and energy efficiency.

AC temperature survey
To make this happen, the Indian government has announced a new survey via mygov.in portal where it wants users to vote for the right AC temperature in order to promote energy efficiency.

The survey is now live and will continue till March 25, 2025 11:45 pm IST.

How to participate in the survey

To participate, follow these steps:
Access the Survey: Visit the official survey link – https://www.mygov.in/mygov-survey/shape-future-energy-efficient-cooling/
Fill in your details: Enter your name, mobile number, email, state/UT, and district.
Answer key questions: Respond to questions about your preferred AC temperature, willingness to use 24°C or higher, and factors influencing your choice.
Submit your response: Ensure all mandatory fields are completed before submitting the survey.

This initiative aims to promote energy efficiency and optimize cooling solutions for a sustainable future. Your feedback will help shape policies for better energy conservation.

Why ideal AC temperature is important
AC temperature is important because AC consumes a huge amount of electricity and operating it at an ideal temperature which is currently as per BEE’s recommendation is 24-degree helps reduce electricity consumption without compromising much in terms of cooling.
