Google working on AI that could ‘take over’ your browser and do everyday tasks

Google's Project Jarvis is about AI that will have the ability to take over a user’s web browser and will be able to complete tasks such as buying a product or booking a flight

Back in May this year, Google dropped quite a few hints about powerful AI agents coming later. Google CEO Sundar Pichai had said about AI agents that they are “intelligent systems that show reasoning, planning, and memory. Are able to think multiple steps ahead, work across software and systems, all to get something done on your behalf, and, most importantly, under your supervision.”

Now, a report by The Information suggests Google is all set to to test a new AI agent in Chrome. The report mentions that the AI will take over a user’s web browsers and will be able to complete “tasks such as gathering research, purchasing a product or booking a flight.” Google is internally referring to the project as “Project Jarvis”.

AI agents are being used by organisations and the likes of Microsoft, Salesforce have been deploying them. However, Google’s Project Jarvis would be more consumer facing and will be able to“automate everyday, web-based tasks,” notes the report by The Information.

Microsoft had unveiled Copilot Vision which works similarly to what Google could launch. With Copilot Vision, users can allow AI assistants to view what they browsing. Then users can ask questions about the text, images, or any other content that a user is browsing.

When can you expect Jarvis to launch?

According to the report, Google is set to preview the model sometime in December 2024. After that Google is expected to roll out to some testers in beta but exact timelines are still not known. Google is right to be cautious in launching Jarvis as it has had a mixed bag of reactions about its AI tools. The AI-powered image tool from Google had received a lot of flak and Google had to roll it back.
