Google Photos is one of the most popular gallery apps on Android and it’s continually evolving with useful updates and features. One of the more useful features is the ability to spot faces and recognise them. It then categorises these faces and they can be used to search for photos or are placed under the Memories section.
Now Google is adding a “Show Less” tab that minimises the appearance of specific faces in their Memories slideshows, without completely erasing them from the photo library. This feature was first spotted by Android Authority via Assemble Debug and appears to be a toned-down version of the “Block face” option, which completely removes selected faces from memories.
There will be two options now available in the Photos app to hide a face. The “Block face” tab, as mentioned earlier, will completely remove the selected faces from the Memories tab. However, the “Show Less” option would identify the individual's face and filter off images of them unless they were of a group.
Therefore, Google will still make the group photos of those faces from the “Show Less” tab available in the main gallery. Here, users will find a new toggle labeled “Hide face from memories”. This will allow users to designate which faces they’d prefer to see less of in their automated slideshows. It will be available in the “People and Pets section.”
Currently, Google has not confirmed its rollout timeline. However, Google is currently making it available to a few Google Photos beta users, and refining the “Show Less feature.” We expect a staged stable rollout in the coming weeks.
