Canon is looking to grab a bigger share in the Indian market as it unveiled two new cameras with its focus largely on filmmaking and technological advancements.
The company has launched two new EOS R series cameras, the EOS R1 and EOS R5 Mark II, indicating that its focus will be more on the the growing filmmaking industry.
While unveiling the new cameras, Canon executives also addressed India’s market potential. “India remains one of the most important markets in the world," Tiger Ishii , Canon Marketing Asia & President & CEO, Canon Singapore, said at a roundtable conference.
Not just cameras, but according to Ishii, Canon sees significant potential in commercial printing and medical devices as well.
According to Canon, a growing middle class, GDP growth and urbanisation gives it an opportunity to target double digit growth.
Focus on filmmaking
The launch of the new EOS R series cameras is in line Canon's focus on filmmaking in India. These new cameras cater to the needs of professional filmmakers with their high-resolution capabilities and improved video features. Canon says that still photography remains a critical part of its plans as it remains one of the few brands to still make and sell DSLR cameras.
Both EOS R1 and EOS R5 MARK II use the new XF-AVC S/XF-HEVC S file system, which has similar specifications as the Cinema EOS file system. This system enables workflows that are incompatible with the conventional MP4 format and streamlines the multi-camera project editing process where Cinema EOS cameras are utilised.

Canon's EOS R5 Mark II hits stores this August priced at Rs 4.05 lakh for the body only. For those seeking the top-of-the-line EOS R1, the wait is a bit longer - expect it by November with a price tag of Rs 6.30 lakh for the body.
