Delhi tempreature

Delhi is boiling. With temperatures crossing a scorching 50 degrees Celsius, stepping out feels like walking into an oven. As the heatwave continues, most people are looking for one thing and that is relief. And for many, that means buying a new air conditioner.

If you're planning to get an AC to beat the heat, here are five simple things to keep in mind before you swipe that card or click “buy now.”

1. Size matters more than you think

No, not all ACs are created equal. A small AC in a large room will struggle to cool, while a large AC in a small room will waste power. The general rule? For a room up to 150 sq. ft., a 1-ton AC is usually enough. For anything bigger, go for 1.5-ton or 2-ton, depending on the space.

2. Inverter vs non-inverter: what’s the difference?

Inverter ACs are smarter. They adjust their cooling based on the room temperature, which makes them more energy-efficient and quieter. Non-inverter ACs are cheaper up front, but they switch on and off repeatedly, using more electricity over time. If you’re going to run the AC for long hours daily, an inverter model is usually a better investment.

3. Star ratings are equal to electricity savings

Look for the BEE star rating. A 5-star AC will cost more initially but save you money on your electricity bill in the long run. In a city like Delhi where summers are long and brutal, those monthly savings can really add up.

4. Split or window AC?

Split ACs are quieter and more stylish, and they cool faster. But they require more installation effort. Window ACs are easier to install and usually cost less, but they’re bulkier and noisier. Pick one based on your room layout and budget.

5. Don’t forget service and warranty

It’s easy to get caught up in specs and features, but don’t ignore after-sales service. Choose a brand with good local support and a solid warranty. You’ll thank yourself when it’s 50 degrees and something goes wrong.

In short, buying an AC in Delhi’s crazy summer is no longer a luxury, it’s survival. But a little research now can help you stay cool without burning a hole in your wallet. Stay safe, stay hydrated, and choose wisely!
