CyberMedia Research (CMR) has released a new report on the Indian smartphone market share. According to it, Xiaomi has emerged as the top smartphone brand in India for the second quarter of 2024, with a total of 19.3% of the market share. Samsung came a close second, as it has a total of 18.5% of the smartphone market share.

However, Vivo which overall has the third-highest total smartphone share in India, leads the 5G smartphone segment with a 21% share, followed by Samsung at 20% until the second quarter of 2024. The report also adds that the budget 5G smartphones, which are available between Rs 10,000 to Rs 13,000, grew by over 200% from last year.

Menka Kumari, Analyst- Industry Intelligence Group at CMR stated: "The availability of affordable 5G phones in the Rs 10,000 to Rs 13,000 range has significantly propelled market growth. Additionally, the premiumisation wave continues to stay strong, with the premium segment (above INR 25,000) witnessing a 9% YoY growth.”

Further, the report mentioned that the affordable smartphone segment (below Rs 7,000) is now experiencing a 26% decline year-over-year (YoY) basis. Additionally, the budget-midrange segment continues to lead, capturing a commanding 71% of the market share. This category is now mostly dominated by 5G smartphones.

The overall feature phone market recorded 1% YoY growth. However, 2G feature phone shipments decreased by 6% YoY, amidst the growing popularity of budget 4G or 5G phones. The 4G feature phone shipments recorded 39% growth during the second quarter, majorly because of Jio capturing 68% market share in this category,  followed by Nokia at 28%.
