Apple has expanded its latest smartphone lineup with the launch of the iPhone 17e, positioning it as a more accessible entry into the iPhone 17 family while retaining several headline features.
At the core of the iPhone 17e is the new A19 chip, built on advanced 3-nanometer technology. Apple says the processor delivers significantly faster performance compared to older models, handling everything from everyday multitasking to advanced AI-powered features. The 6-core CPU and upgraded GPU are designed to support demanding games, enhanced graphics rendering, and Apple Intelligence capabilities. A 16-core Neural Engine further boosts on-device AI processing.
The iPhone 17e also introduces C1X, Apple’s latest in-house cellular modem. According to the company, C1X offers up to twice the speeds of the previous-generation C1 modem and improves energy efficiency, contributing to all-day battery life.
Display, camera, and more
On the front, the device features a 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR OLED display with up to 1200 nits peak HDR brightness. Apple has equipped the phone with Ceramic Shield 2, which it says provides three times better scratch resistance than the previous generation, along with improved glare reduction. The device carries an IP68 rating for water and dust resistance and uses an aerospace-grade aluminum frame.
Photography is handled by a 48MP Fusion camera system that supports optical-quality 2x Telephoto through sensor cropping, effectively offering two focal lengths in one camera. Users can shoot at full 48MP resolution or a default 24MP mode. Portrait photography sees improvements through an enhanced image pipeline that automatically captures depth information for people and pets, allowing focus adjustments after the shot. The phone also supports 4K video recording in Dolby Vision at up to 60 fps, along with Spatial Audio capture and enhanced audio editing tools.
Battery life is supported by efficiency improvements across the A19 chip and C1X modem. The device supports fast charging over USB-C and offers MagSafe and Qi2 wireless charging up to 15W. A wide range of MagSafe-compatible accessories, including chargers, cases, and wallets, remains supported.
Safety and connectivity features continue to be a focus. When outside traditional network coverage, users can access Messages via satellite, Emergency SOS via satellite, Roadside Assistance via satellite, and location sharing through Find My. Crash Detection is also included, automatically contacting emergency services in the event of a severe car accident.
The iPhone 17e ships with iOS 26, bringing a refreshed design language and expanded Apple Intelligence capabilities. New features include Live Translation across Messages, FaceTime, Phone, and compatible AirPods, as well as expanded visual intelligence that allows users to interact with content displayed on their screen. Additional tools such as Call Screening, Hold Assist, and message filtering for unknown senders aim to reduce distractions.
