As the US and Israel conflict spread across the Middle East, the UAE’s Palm Jumeirah area was caught up in Iranian strikes that rattled luxury resorts and sent visitors fleeing.

Soon after, videos of the incident went viral on social media, with users humorously reviewing the luxury hotel amid the chaos.

Missile strike

On February 28, 2026, Iran carried out retaliatory drone strikes targeting multiple sites in the UAE. Debris near the Fairmont injured four people, though defence systems intercepted most strikes. Videos circulating on social media showed smoke trails across the skyline, and a fire was also reported near the luxury hotel Fairmont The Palm after falling debris landed nearby. Officials confirmed there was no significant damage, highlighting the region’s volatility and the need for civilian security measures.

Tourists turned the incident into a joke, teasing the lack of “air defence systems” and giving the hotel 1-2 stars despite the unfolding crisis.

One user wrote, “People are leaving Google reviews on the Fairmont Palm hotel in Dubai after the missile strike earlier today.”

Another user said, “This generation is not actually serious.”

A third one added, “Aside from the missile explosion, the room service and ambience were excellent, 4.5/5."

Another wrote, “Imagine being the unluckiest person ever to have your hotel be the only one ever blown up in Dubai, and on top of that, everyone drags its reviews down too.”

Khamenei Killed In US, Israeli Strikes

Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, aged 86, died Saturday when the United States and Israel launched coordinated strikes on Iranian targets, and Israeli officials said his Tehran compound was hit in the operation.

Iranian media reported that Khamenei's daughter, grandchild, son-in-law, and daughter-in-law were also killed in the strikes. On the other hand, Israeli officials said 200 fighter jets carried out the largest aerial mission in the country’s history, hitting roughly 50 targets across Iran.

Iran condemned the attacks as unjustified aggression and launched missile barrages against Israel and several Gulf states that host US military facilities.
