Marizanne Kapp, the South Africa allrounder, has set WPL 2024 alight, as was the case last season, too, with her sizzling performances with both bat and ball. She bagged back-to-back Player-of-the-Match Awards in the last two games, playing a vital role in the Capitals’ victories. Against the Royal Challengers, she made a brisk 32 with the bat before going on to take 2 for 35, including that of the big fish, captain Smriti Mandhana with a wily change of pace. Against the Warriorz, Kapp removed their top order inside the Powerplay and finished with stunning figures of 3 for 5.

At the moment, very little by way of cohesion of their batting or bowling unit is going the Giants’ way. But they will take heart from the fact that in their last match, they put up their highest total – 142 for 5 – of the season, thanks to a 50 stand from the middle-order pair of Phoebe Litchfield and Ashleigh Gardner. Opener Laura Wolvaardt’s 28 was also crucial in that tally. The Giants will hope all three of them click again and help the side notch up their first win of this edition.
