Paris Olympics 2024, India's schedule on Day 14: India had quite an extraordinary Day 13 at the Paris Olympics as the country secured two medals. Neeraj Chopra, India's most decorated athlete, missed out on the gold in men's javelin finals, but ensured the country of a silver medal in the competition. Apart from Neeraj, the Indian men's hockey team scripted history by securing the Olympic bronze. This was the second medal in consecutive editions, and the first in 52 years.
Now as we approach towards the end of the Paris Games the events have started to slim. However, India still has a shot to shoot their medal tally, with one lined up for Friday. For this to happen, the onus will be on grappler Aman Sehrawat, who will meet Darian Cruz of Puerto Rico in the bronze medal bout in men's 57kg freestyle wrestling on Friday. Aman booked a flight to Paris in place of Ravi Dahiya, and now has the massive responsibility to ensure that India’s streak of winning a wrestling medal since 2008 doesn’t end in Paris.
Aman has so far shown promise as he started Day 12 with commanding performances, helping him storm into the semifinals. However, he was outmuscled in the semifinal by Japan's Rei Higuchi and lost the bout 0-10 via technical superiority. The boy from Chhatrasal, a sports stadium in North Delhi famous for its wrestlers, started his campaign with a 10-0 win against North Macedonia’s Vladimir Egorov, following which he secured a 12-0 win, once again by technical superiority, against Zelimkhan Abakarov of Albania, which was the quarterfinal.
