Gambhir cited Shubman Gill's appointment as Test captain an illustration of his belief in putting people under pressure to bring out their best performances. "Throw guys in deep sea, as simple as it can get. We did the same with Shubman Gill as well when he was appointed as a Test captain," he noted.
Additionally, Gambhir emphasised on the culture of transparency and integrity that he and his team have strived to establish within the Indian setup. "It has been a very transparent dressing room. It has been a very honest dressing room and that is something how we want this dressing room to be like," he explained.
In anticipation of the 2026 T20 World Cup, Gambhir acknowledged that the team is still developing but is optimistic about reaching its peak at the appropriate moment. "I think we still aren't where we want to be, come the T20 World Cup. So hopefully you guys know the importance of being fit. We still have three months to be where we want to be," he said.
