Afghanistan captain Rashid Khan never fails to entertain with his bat thanks to his unconventional strokeplay. He delivered another odd situation on September 18, in the clash against Sri Lanka in the Asia Cup 2025 in Abu Dhabi. Pacer Nuwan Thushara delivered a superb slower yorker in the 18th over of Afghanistan's innings, totally deceiving Rashid. The right-hander deflected the ball off his rear thigh onto the stumps after trying a slog sweep much too early.
What followed was hilarious. Unaware that he had already bowled Rashid, Thushara turned to call for LBW as soon as the ball struck the stumps. Rashid, who was equally oblivious, called for a review at the same moment, believing the umpire had signaled him out leg-before. As the ball struck the stumps and knocked the bails off, the umpire was actually just pointing to Thushara to signal that the batter had been clean bowled.

Both the batter and the bowler appealed for what ended up being a bowled dismissal, which is not often the case. Rashid and Thushara, along with the other Sri Lankan players and the two on-field umpires, grinned as they saw the LED stumps light up.

In the preceding over against Dushmantha Chameera, Rashid had escaped a near-LBW appeal after DRS had picked up an inside edge to spare the Afghanistan skipper. Three balls later, he was dismissed.

Rashid's partnership with Mohammad Nabi ensured that Afghanistan did not collapse to a pitiful score, despite his 23-ball consumption, which meant a lower strike rate than he is typically known for.
Nabi took it upon himself to make sure the innings ended spectacularly after Rashid left. 49 runs were scored in the final two overs, and 32 runs, including five consecutive sixes, were scored in the final over.
