Star batter Shreyas Iyer has not featured in the second unofficial Test between India A and Australia A taking place in Lucknow. Iyer, who was originally named captain of the side, has returned to Mumbai and withdrawn from the fixture, citing personal reasons. In his absence, Dhruv Jurel has been handed the leadership role.
According to a report by Cricbuzz, Iyer had already informed the BCCI of his decision. His withdrawal also raises questions about whether he will be in contention for India’s upcoming two-Test home series against West Indies.
Meanwhile, senior India players KL Rahul and Mohammed Siraj have joined the India A side.
The opening unofficial Test between the two sides ended in a dull stalemate.
"Yes, Shreyas is taking a break and has returned to Mumbai. He has informed the selectors that he won't be able to play in the second four-day match against Australia A. However, he remains in fray for a spot in the middle-order when the selectors meet to pick the squad for the West Indies series," a Times of India report quoted a source as saying.
India A Squad: Abhimanyu Easwaran, N Jagadeesan (WK), Sai Sudharsan, Dhruv Jurel (VC & WK), Devdutt Padikkal, Harsh Dubey, Ayush Badoni, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Tanush Kotian, Prasidh Krishna, Gurnoor Brar, Khaleel Ahmed, Manav Suthar, Yash Thakur, KL Rahul and Mohammed Siraj.
