Pat Cummins pounds Edgbaston pitch with clever ‘who would want to be a bowler over there’ remark

Taking inspiration from last month's WTC final, England coach Brendon McCullum expressed he wants "something with a bit more pace, a bit more bounce, and maybe a little bit of sideways."

Australia captain Pat Cummins took a brilliant dig at the Edgbaston surface following India's stunning 336-run victory over England in the second Test of the five-match series. For the first time in their Test history, Team India broke through the Edgbaston stronghold, under the captaincy of Shubman Gill. India set a target of 608 for England, however the home team only scored 271 in response.

Australia, on the other hand, are also engaged in a three-match series against the West Indies and won the second Test by 133 runs to go 2-0 up in the series. Following Australia's triumph, Cummins was questioned by the media over the state of the pitch at Edgbaston. The Australian skipper cleverly pounded the pitch in response and wondered "who would even want to be a bowler?"

"I wasn't. Probably Marnus was. We'll keep an eye on that series. Who would want to be a bowler over there? Not surprised with the fact that it was the third flattest wicket over there in the history of England cricket," he added.

Cummins continued by saying that the pitch at Edgbaston is entirely different from the one at the National Cricket Stadium in Grenada, where Australia played the West Indies. "Look, Test cricket over here as compared to Test cricket over there, looks like two different sports. Looks like it is going to be good series over there. 1-1. Didn't watch a lot of it but saw the scores," said Cummins.

India and England will play their third Test match at the iconic Lord's from July 10. Taking inspiration from last month's World Test Championship (WTC) final, where Cummins and Kagiso Rabada found significant seam movement, England coach Brendon McCullum expressed he wants "something with a bit more pace, a bit more bounce, and maybe a little bit of sideways."

"It'll be a blockbuster either way, but I think it's going to set up for a cracker - especially if there's plenty of life in it (the pitch)," McCullum was quoted as saying in ESPNcricinfo.
