One of the season's most notable players has been Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) spinner Digvesh Rathi, who has shown off his skills against some of the greatest names in world cricket. But that 'notebook celebration' has already cost the 25-year-old two fines. His name has also been tacked on two demerit points.
Rathi ultimately gave an explanation for his celebration ahead of the forthcoming IPL 2025 matchup against the reigning champion Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). Rathi declared Sunil Narine to be his idol following the victory over the Mumbai Indians in Lucknow. It is therefore not surprising that during a Sunday training session at the Eden Gardens, LSG captain Rishabh Pant introduced the young spinner to Narine.
When Rathi met Narine, Pant and Nicholas Pooran pulled the youngster's legs. When Pant introduced Rathi to Narine, Nicholas Pooran asked the young spinner, "So tell me something. He (Narine) doesn't celebrate. Why do you celebrate?"
"I'm from Delhi," was Rathi's succinct and straightforward response to the query. Pooran, Pant and Narine were all left in splits by this remark.
Pant then added, "He's (Rathi) a ticket collector. He's (Narine) a wicket collector. He is writing the cheques."
The Kolkata Knight Riders' official X handle posted the video along with the message, "POV: Finally you met your idol."

Rathi was previously penalized 50 percent of his match fees by the BCCI for his failure to learn from his mistakes. Rathi was also docked half of his match fees for his over the top wicket-taking celebration against Punjab Kings. "This was his second Level 1 offence under Article 2.5 this season, and hence, he has accumulated two Demerit Points, in addition to One Demerit Point which he accumulated during LSG’s match against Punjab Kings on April 01, 2025," said an official statement from the BCCI.
