Indian cricket icon Virat Kohli and rising star Rinku Singh joined Bollywood legend Shah Rukh Khan on stage during the grand opening ceremony of the IPL 2025 at Kolkata’s Eden Gardens on March 22 (Saturday). Kohli showcased his dance moves to the hit song 'Jhoome Jo Pathaan' from Shah Rukh’s blockbuster Pathaan, while Rinku Singh grooved to 'Lutt Putt Gaya' from the film Dunki.

Kicking off at 6:00 PM IST, the ceremony featured a star-studded lineup, including acclaimed singer Shreya Ghoshal and Bollywood actress Disha Patani, mesmerizing the packed stadium and millions of viewers across the globe.

Coming to the match, Royal Challengers Bengaluru skipper Rajat Patidar won the toss and elected to bowl against defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders in the opening game of the IPL 2025 on Saturday. This is for the first time KKR is facing RCB in the opening match of an IPL season since 2008. Patidar has replaced Faf du Plessis as RCB skipper, while Ajinkya Rahane took over from Shreyas Iyer, who led KKR to their third IPL title last year.

Rajat Patidar (Royal Challengers Bengaluru): We have decided to bowl first, the pitch looks hard. Amazing to lead RCB and great opportunity to learn from the great players. We have done proper preparations for the last 10-15 days. I am confused with this impact player. We are going with 3 fast bowlers and 2 spinners.

Ajinkya Rahane (Kolkata Knight Riders): It's an honour to lead this team. Our preparation has been good, the core group has been the same. Looking forward to bat well first and defend later on. It is all about giving the players the freedom and allow them to play as a unit. We are playing 3 fast bowlers and 2 spinners.
