The winners of the first Indian Premier League (IPL) season, the Rajasthan Royals, will play last year's runners-up Sunrisers Hyderabad on Sunday at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. Revenge will be on the Royals’ minds as they were knocked out of the 2024 edition after losing to SRH in Qualifier 2.

But SRH hold the edge over the Royals not just because of playing at home, but also due to their explosive batting top order that has Abhishek Sharma, Travis Head, Ishan Kishan and Heinrich Klaasen. SRH vs RR: Head-to-Head

The Sunrisers and the Royals have clashed as many as 20 times in the IPL, with SRH winning 11 matches and RR emerging victorious on 9 occasions. In the 2024 IPL edition, the Sunrisers and the Royals met twice and both times the Royals ended up on the losing side. The first match had a nail-biting finish after SRH piled up 201/3 on May 2 in Hyderabad and the Royals almost chased it down before Bhuvneshwar Kumar dismissed Rovman Powell on the last ball of the match to win the match by 1 run. In their second match of the season, that was Qualifier 2 played on May 24 at the Chepauk in Chennai, the Sunrisers romped to a 36-run victory as the Royals failed to chase down a 176-run target.

The Royals will miss their skipper Sanju Samson in their 2025 edition opener as the Kerala batsman is out due to a finger injury but he can still provide services with the bat. Riyan Parag is set to lead the Royals till Samson returns to full fitness. In the absence of their captain, the likes of Parag, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Nitish Rana, Shimron Hetmyer and Dhruv Jurel will have to step up with the bat.
