Mumbai Indians beat Punjab Kings by 9 runs in a match which could have gone to either side before the last wicket was fallen. In many ups and downs within the match, fighting knocks by Ashutosh Sharma and Shashank Singh were delightful to watch for the cricket lovers.

Punjab Kings stumbled early in the innings as Bumrah and Coetzee teared apart their top order batting line up with two-wickets each. Punjab Kings were struggling at 14/4 in third over only when Shashank Singh and Impact Player H Bhatia tried and stabilized the innings for some time. Bhatia however got out without capitalizing on the hard work done at the start of the innings.

Shashank-Ashutosh vowed to fight in chase

Shashank Singh 41 off 25 balls and Ashutosh 61 off 28 balls continued their fight despite early fall of wickets at the top for Punjab Kings. Even after Shashank Singh got out at 41, Ashutosh continued to take his fight alone against the Mumbai Indians. There was a clear panic among the MI dugout when Ashutosh was hitting the ball all over the park.

In the first innings, Mumbai Indians scored 192/7 after 20 overs. After Ishan Kishan got out early in the innings Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav took the lead and got the innings forward with some fine shots all around the park at Mullanpur. Rohit Sharma got out on 36 as Rabada struck at the right time for PBKS. Suryakumar Yadav started looking dangerous but he got out by a diving catch by Prabhsimran Singh on 78. Hardik Pandya also got out early leaving Tilak Verma on the crease as the set batsman. Tim David takes Sam Curran to task in the 19th over which leaks 18 runs. David got out on 14 and Shepherd followed him quickly in the last over.

Rohit-Surya Partnership

The second wicket partnership of 81 runs off 53 balls between Rohit Sharma 36 and Suryakumar Yadav 78 paved way for a fighting score for Mumbai Indians as they finished their innings at 192/7 in 20 overs. The cameo of Tim David 14 and Tilak Verma’s 34* run-innings helped MI pose a good total for Punjab Kings to chase.

Earlier, Punjab Kings won the toss and invited Mumbai Indians to bat first in the night match at Mullanpur.
