PBKS vs MI Highlights, IPL 2025: Punjab Kings defeated Mumbai Indians by 7 wickets.

Punjab Kings (PBKS) reached the top of the standings with a clinical 7-wicket victory over five-time champions Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on Monday.

Punjab chased down the 185-run target with 9 balls to spare to enter Qualifier 1 ensuring two bites at the cherry as MI dropped down to the fourth spot to enter the Eliminator.

A point to be noted here is that MI have never won the IPL title when they have finished out of top two. All of their five titles have come when they have finished in top two, which they have done six times.

Punjab’s opponents in Qualifier 1 and who will MI face in the Eliminator will be decided after the match between Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow on Tuesday.

Here are the five factors that prove why Punjab deserve to be at the top:

Suryakumar Yadav breaks Sachin Tendulkar’s 15-year record in sensational IPL season Suryakumar Yadav breaks Sachin Tendulkar’s 15-year record in sensational IPL season

Suryakumar Yadav breaks Sachin Tendulkar’s record:

Suryakumar Yadav has been Mumbai Indians’ highest run-scorer this season and against Punjab Kings he broke the record of the legendary Sachin Tendulkar.

On his way to his sixth half-century of the season, SKY set a new record for the most runs scored by a Mumbai Indians batsman. He became the highest individual run scorer in a single IPL season, shattering Sachin's 15-year mark. In the 2010 season, Tendulkar had scored 618 runs, including five fifties.

This season, SKY has amassed 640 runs in 14 games. It surpassed his 2023 performance of 605 runs in 16 games and is his best-ever performance in an IPL season.

SKY smashed 2 sixes and 6 fours in his 39-ball 57 before falling on the last ball of the MI innings to Arshdeep Singh.

Arshdeep Singh’s last over:

MI were 181/5 in 19 overs and with Suryakumar Yadav and Naman Dhir going all guns blazing, 200 looked very much on the cards. But Arshdeep Singh bowled a fine last over to not only restrict MI to 184 but also dismissed both SKY and Dhir.

Arshdeep first dismissed Dhir on the first delivery of the over and then conceded a single off the next one to Mitchell Santner. The left-arm pacer then bowled two dot balls to SKY before conceding 2 runs off the next delivery and then finally dismissed him LBW with a yorker to finish his spell at 4-0-28-2.

Priyansh Arya Priyansh Arya

Priyansh Arya’s blazing knock:

Priyansh Arya provided a blazing start to the Punjab run chase smashing 2 sixes and 9 fours in his 35-ball 62. Arya not only reached his 50 with a six off MI captain Hardik Pandya getting to the mark in 27 balls, but also smashed a Jasprit Bumrah delivery for a six in the next over.

Arya put up a fiery 109-run stand with Josh Inglis for the second wicket before falling to Santner.

Josh Inglis rises to the occasion:

Aussie Josh Inglis became the first overseas batter to score a half-century for PBKS this season, proving to be an ideal foil to Arya, not letting the MI bowlers to settle and kept up the ante of scoring at a fast pace.

Inglis slammed a hat-trick of fours against Ashwani Kumar to reach his first IPL 50 off 29 balls. Inglis struck 3 sixes and 9 fours in his 42-ball 73 before he fell LBW to Santner in the 18th over.

Shreyas Iyer Shreyas Iyer

Shreyas Iyer finishes it off in style:

Shreyas Iyer, who last year led Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to the IPL title and even then was let go for this season, had led PBKS from the front this season. Shreyas Iyer, who was not selected for India’s forthcoming Test tour of England despite a stellar domestic season, has been the top run-scorer for Punjab this season.

So it was absolutely fitting that Shreyas Iyer hit the winning runs and finished the match off in style with a six to not only guarantee Punjab a top-two finish but also overtake Gujarat Titans (GT) and move to the No. 1 spot in the points table.

Shreyas Iyer remained unbeaten after smashing 2 sixes and a four in his 16-ball 26 to take Punjab to Qualifier 1.
