IPL 2025: Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) have roped in Mumbai's senior team coach Omkar Salvi as their fast bowling coach ahead of the IPL 2025 season. Salvi has worked as assistant coach of KKR in the past and he is well-known in the domestic circuit.

"He has been appointed as bowling coach for RCB for the forthcoming season, he has expertise and has worked with other franchises too," a source confirmed to Indian Express.

Salvi wasn't part of any IPL franchise post his KKR stint and was head coach of the Mumbai senior team. His contract with Mumbai finishes in March 2025. He is the brother of former India pacer Avishkar Salvi and under his tenure Mumbai won the Ranji Trophy last season.

RCB had appointed Dinesh Karthik as batting coach earlier this year and Salvi has worked with him for KKR in the past too. Salvi is a great addition to the new backroom staff RCB are looking to build.

RCB’s bowling has often been a challenge, particularly at the Chinnaswamy Stadium with its short boundaries. Salvi's emphasis on simplicity and sticking to the basics could be exactly what the team needs.

It is understood that Salvi doesn't like the spotlight and he's a 'behind-the-scenes' kind of guy. He has played for Railways and holds a solid reputation as coach.

The three-time IPL runners up have retained Virat Kohli, Rajat Patidar and Yash Dayal ahead of the new season. With the auction just days away, RCB will be hoping to end the jinx of three finals and no titles.

RCB has retained just three players, the second-fewest among the ten teams. This leaves them with the option to use all three of their RTM (Right to Match) cards on capped players. Likely targets for retention include Glenn Maxwell, Faf du Plessis, Mohammed Siraj, and Will Jacks. While Cameron Green may have been a top priority, a back injury has ruled him out of IPL 2025, meaning he won’t be entering the auction.
