Chennai Super Kings batsman Ayush Mhatre made his IPL debut on Sunday at the Wankhede Stadium, scoring 32 runs against the Mumbai Indians. After his quick knock in the IPL Clasico, a video of the little batter from when he was six years old went viral on social media.
Batting at No. 3 for CSK after being put into bat, Mhatre smashed 2 sixes and 4 fours in his 15-ball 32 before he was caught by Mitchell Santner off Deepak Chahar.
At 17 years and 278 days Ayush Mhatre became the youngest player to represent CSK in the IPL.
Mhatre made a memorable start to his IPL stint by slamming a four and two consecutive sixes off Ashwani Kumar in the fourth over of the match.

CSK roped in the young Mumbai batter Ayush Mhatre to replace skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad, who was ruled out of the tournament owing to an elbow fracture.
In the Ranji Trophy, Mhatre was one of Mumbai's leading run scorers. He scored two hundreds to reach 471 runs in eight games.
In the prestigious Vijay Hazare Trophy, Mhatre was the leading run scorer for Mumbai. In seven games, he amassed 458 runs at a remarkable average of 65.42.
Mhatre has not yet made his Mumbai T20 debut, despite his prowess in lengthier formats.
Mhatre wasn't picked at random. He had already been watched by CSK. He received an invitation to Chennai for a trial session about two weeks ago, during which the coaching staff evaluated him.
Salman Nizar of Kerala and Urvil Patel of Gujarat were among the other hitters who participated in the same trials. However, CSK decided that Mhatre was their man after Gaikwad’s injury. Even though the right-handed opener set his base price at Rs 30 lakh, he had gone unsold at the IPL 2025 auction.
