The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has imposed fines on the Lucknow Super Giants and Chennai Super Kings due to a slow over rate during their recent IPL match on Friday. The captains of both teams, KL Rahul and Ruturaj Gaikwad, were each fined INR 12 lakh.
The BCCI issued a statement saying that KL Rahul, captain of the Lucknow Super Giants, has been fined for his team's slow over rate during Match 34 of the Indian Premier League 2024 against the Chennai Super Kings at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow.
A similar statement was issued for CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad, stating that he has been fined for his team's slow over rate against the Lucknow Super Giants.
The BCCI added that both players were fined INR 12 lakh each as it was the first offence of the season for their teams under the IPL's Code of Conduct regarding minimum over-rate offences.
Despite KL Rahul's exceptional performance in the match, earning the Player of the Match award for his impressive 82 off 53 balls, he was fined. His partnership with Quinton de Kock led Lucknow Super Giants to an 8-wicket victory over Chennai Super Kings and set the highest opening partnership of the season.
In contrast, Ruturaj Gaikwad's circumstances were less fortunate; his team lost, and his individual batting performance was modest, scoring 17 off 13 balls.
