Following their defeat to Delhi Capitals in the IPL 2025 clash, the Bollywood actor took to social media to express her disappointment, calling such errors unacceptable in a tournament of this magnitude. The incident in question occurred when it appeared that Shashank Singh had smashed a six off Mohit Sharma’s delivery on the final ball of the 15th over. However, the third umpire ruled it differently, sparking outrage.
What made the third umpire’s decision even more controversial was the reaction of Karun Nair, the fielder at the boundary. After attempting to take a catch near the ropes, Nair himself signaled that the ball had cleared the boundary for a six. Despite this, the on-field umpires referred the matter upstairs.

The third umpire reviewed the footage and, finding no clear evidence of Nair stepping on or touching the boundary line, ruled it a legal fielding effort. Consequently, Punjab Kings were awarded just a single run instead of six.
Responding to a fan on X (formerly Twitter), Preity Zinta revealed that she later spoke to both Karun Nair and the batter involved, and they confirmed that the ball had indeed gone over the boundary.
"In a such a high profile tournament with so much technology at the Third Umpire’s disposal such mistakes are unacceptable & simply shouldn’t happen. I spoke To Karun after the game & he confirmed it was DEFINITELY a 6 ! I rest my case ! #PBKSvsDC #IPL2025," Preity Zinta wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

The 6-wicket defeat against the Delhi Capitals has damaged Punjab Kings' chances of finishing at the top two sports in the points table after the league stage is finished. Punjab now have to win their last game against Mumbai to keep their hopes alive to finish on top of the table.
