Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) are one match away from lifting their maiden IPL title. They now wait for their opponent in the IPL 2025 final, which will take place in Ahmedabad on June 3. The winner of Qualifier 2 between Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Mumbai Indians (MI) will face them in the final.

Ahead of the big final, two former England internationals, Nasser Hussain and Michael Atherton, were seen talking about RCB on the Sky Sports Podcast. A clip from that discussion has now gone viral on social media. In it, Hussain jokingly said that RCB’s current batting coach, who is also one of their former players, could become unbearable if RCB win the IPL this season.

"RCB have got through to the finals. If they win that, DK is going to be unbearable. One season as coach/mentor and he's won it," Hussain said.

Then Atherton compared him to the former Chelsea and England football legend, John Terry. He said: "He's unbearable at the best of times, he's going to be doubly unbearable. He'll be like John Terry, at the front of the RCB trophy presentation holding it there with Virat Kohli."

Dinesh Karthik’s association with RCB

RCB appointed him as their mentor in 2024. A month later, he announced his retirement from IPL. As a player too, Karthik had a stint with RCB. After playing for them in 2015, he returned to the team in 2022 and played till 2024. In 53 innings, he scored 937 runs at an average of 24.65 and a strike rate of 162.95, including three fifties.

The IPL 2022 season was fantastic for him. He scored 330 runs in 16 innings, with an average of 55.00 and a strike rate of 183.33. That performance even helped him make a comeback to the Indian team. He also played in the 2022 T20 World Cup in Australia.

RCB’s journey so far in IPL 2025

RCB have played a good brand of cricket this season. They finished second in the league stage with 19 points from 14 games. Their net run rate was +0.301. In Qualifier 1 at Mullanpur, they defeated PBKS comfortably and sealed their place in the final.

There were many questions raised about RCB’s management. Head coach Andy Flower, Director of Cricket Mo Bobat, and Karthik were criticised for some of their picks in the mega auction. But the way they have performed so far, and with a chance to make history, all eyes will be on Ahmedabad on June 3.
