IPL 2025, CSK vs RCB Highlights: Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) registered their first victory at the Chepauk since 2008 when they defeated Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by 50 runs at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Friday.
RCB looked tactically stronger, strategically more solid than their opponents and successfully defended the 196-run total by restricting CSK to 146/8 in their 20 overs to breach fortress Chepauk.
Here are the top moments of the match:
Virat Kohli IPL
Under pressure Virat Kohli:
The onus was on former captain Virat Kohli to take RCB to a challenging total. But the batting mainstay played a scratchy innings at best.
Kohli was even hit on the helmet by a bouncer from Matheesha Pathirana. But on the very next ball, Kohli showed who’s the boss in the middle when he pulled another short delivery over the fine leg fence for a six and hit the next one for a four.
Kohli’s struggles at the wicket ended when he slog swept a Noor Ahmad delivery to deep mid-wicket for Rachin Ravindra to take the catch.
CSK vs RCB
Captain’s knock by Rajat Patidar:
Rajat Patidar became the second RCB skipper after Virat Kohli (in 2013) to put up a 50-plus score at Chepauk. Patidar, who survived three chances, smashed 3 sixes and 4 fours in his 32-ball 51 to take RCB over the 170-run mark.
Patidar’s half-century was instrumental in RCB ending at 196/7 – their second highest team total against CSK at Chepauk after 205 runs in 2012.

Noor Ahmad gets the Purple Cap:
One of the most sought-after players at the IPL 2025 auctions, Noor Ahmad was acquired by the Chennai Super Kings for an incredible Rs 10 crores.
The Afghan spinner lived up to his price tag by becoming the highest wicket-taker in IPL 2025 by taking 3 RCB wickets, dismissing Phil Salt, Virat Kohli and Liam Livingstone, to finish with 3/36.

The Tim David cameo:
RCB were 172/5 when Tim David walked out to the crease. David got going from the word go, smashing the first delivery he faced for a boundary.
But what gave the RCB innings a real boost were the three consecutive sixes that Tim David hit off Sam Curran in the last over of the innings.
Those 3 successive sixes changed the look of the RCB dugout and they walked out to defend 196 with supreme confidence.
CSK vs RCB
RCB pacers outshine CSK spinners:
The Chepauk track is reputed to help spinners, especially of the home team. But on Friday, the RCB pacers Josh Hazlewood and Yash Dayal rattled the RCB run chase.
Aussie pacer Hazlewood drew first blood for RCB when he dismissed opener Rahul Tripathi and captain Ruturaj Gaikwad in his first over by using the bounce of the Chepauk track.
Rachin Ravindra kept CSK in the run chase scoring 41 runs before edging a Yash Dayal delivery onto his stumps. Dayal struck again 4 balls later when Shivam Dube was dismissed in a similar fashion.
Hazlewood dismissed Jadeja (who became the first player in IPL to complete the double of 3000 runs and 100 wickets) in the penultimate over to take his tally to 3/21 but the wickets of Ravindra and Dube were the final nails in the CSK coffin.
CSK vs RCB
The batting position of MS Dhoni:
CSK talisman MS Dhoni triggered a debate by walking in to bat with his team tottering at 99/7 in 15.2 overs. This was only the second time that Dhoni batted at No. 9 in his T20 career. The first instance came against PBKS at Dharamshala last year and he was dismissed for a golden duck against Harshal Patel.
Dhoni smashed Krunal Pandya for two consecutive sixes to become CSK’s leading run-scorer in the IPL, surpassing Suresh Raina (4687 runs), but could not take his team to victory who suffered a rare thrashing at home.
