India squad vs Sri Lanka announced: The Indian squad for the upcoming T20I and ODI series against Sri Lanka was announced by BCCI on Thursday. Rohit Sharma will be leading the unit in the 50-over format, with Shubman Gill his deputy. Meanwhile, on expected lines Suryakumar Yadav will lead the team in shorter format, with Gill being promoted as the vice-captain.
Earlier this month, Gill had led a second string Indian unit to a 4-1 win against Zimbabwe in the T20Is. Meanwhile, Hardik Pandya, who was Rohit's deputy in the T20 World Cup, will only play the shorter format. He had earlier made himself unavailable for the ODIs due to personal reasons.
This will be Gautam Gambhir's first stint as India's head coach, and on his request Rohit and Virat Kohli have made themselves available for the three ODIs. Earlier it was reported that both the senior pros would give ODIs a miss.

In an interesting development, Riyan Parag and Harshit Rana have made the cut for the 50-over format. Parag was recently inducted in the national setup when the team travelled to Zimbabwe for a 5-match T20I series. He was also handed India cap but could only muster 24 runs in the two innings he got to play.
Rana, on the other hand, is yet to earn a India cap despite traveling with the team to Zimbabwe. He had a decent IPL 2024 and played under the mentorship of current head coach Gambhir in the Kolkata Knight Riders camp.
Meanwhile, Kuldeep will only be part of the team in the 50-over format. Jasprit Bumrah, team's premier pacer, has been rested for both the formats.
