IND vs WI: KL Rahul smashed a century on home soil after nine years in Test cricket, guiding India against the West Indies at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Friday (October 3). With his 10th century as an Indian opener, Rahul surpassed big names like Rohit Sharma and current India coach Gautam Gambhir in an elite list.

As per Cricbuzz, Rahul recorded a gap of 3,211 days between his first and second Test centuries on home soil, marking the longest interval for any Indian batter between two home hundreds. The previous record was held by R Ashwin, who took 2,655 days to achieve the same between 2013 and 2021.

The 33-year-old has made a strong start to the home season. Last week, he scored his first First-Class century on Indian soil since the 2016 Chennai Test, remaining unbeaten on 176 while playing a spectacular role in chasing down 412 runs against Australia A at Lucknow’s Ekana Stadium.

Rahul displayed great determination at the crease and benefited from some early luck when a nick slipped through the gap between the wicketkeeper and a wide first slip. He went on to register his second Test century against the West Indies, marking his first hundred in India since December 2016, when he had scored 199 against England in Chennai.
