IND vs ENG Highlights, 4th Test Day 2: England 225 for 2 at stumps, trail India by 133 runs

July 24, 2025· 23:35 IST

IND vs ENG Highlights, 4th Test Day 2: Ben Duckett spearheaded England’s dominant reply with a blistering 94, as the hosts closed in on India’s first-innings total, finishing the second day of the fourth Test at a commanding 225 for two. Duckett, in fine touch, took apart a misfiring Indian pace attack and, alongside Zak Crawley, stitched together a formidable opening stand that shifted momentum in England’s favour.

ℹ️MATCH UPDATE

India were all over their lines in the mini session and one expected them to come back harder post Tea. The lines did improve but the result did not vary. The openers continued their run fest and with the Dukes ball getting older and softer, all the bowlers struggled to make it move. Eventually, Ravindra Jadeja managed to get a wicket off a mistake by Crawley, having him caught at first slip for 84, breaking the 166-run stand. That seemed to lift the Indian spirits as the bowling seemed to get better. Debutant Anshul Kamboj did much better in his second spell and managed to get his maiden Test wicket by having Duckett caught behind, for a wonderful 94. The bowling was good in the last hour of play but that blazing opening stand has taken this game quickly at the rate of knotts.

ℹ️MATCH UPDATE

The story completely changed once England came out to bat. Out of nowhere, the dark clouds disappeared and the sun came out in full glory. Add to it, that little shower before Lunch made the ball come nicely onto the bat and the deck seemed totally different from what we had seen during the Indian innings. And on flat tracks, Bazball rarely misses to make its mark. Ben Duckett and Zak Crawley took India by the horns and raced off to around 5 an over. Having required to play around 70 minutes till Tea, they just scored boundaries at will, reaching 77/0 in just 14 overs at the break.

July 24, 2025· 23:14 IST

ℹ️MATCH UPDATE

The day began with a big question mark for India. There was no clarity over Rishabh Pant's batting and Ravindra Jadeja was supposed to be their key with the bat. However, he fell in the second over of the day, raising England's hopes of bowling the visitors under 300. But Shardul Thakur played a valuable hand with Washington Sundar and then, Pant came out bravely to score a few crucial runs to take the visitors beyond 350. At that stage, the weather was murky and some rain had even started to fall once the last Indian wicket fell. Hence, 358 looked like a very big score on this deck.

July 24, 2025· 23:11 IST

ℹ️MATCH UPDATE

148/2 in 32 overs in the final session. No doubt as to who won that phase. This has been a solid reply from England and in fact, post the first session on Day 2, it has been all England. In less than 50 overs, they have knocked off more than 60 percent of India's total and the only disappointment for them would be the missing of the centuries by both of their openers.

Sound, sound, sound! Nothing, says the umpire. 'Dekh le,' says Bumrah. Gill does not want to take a chance with the review. What a cracker of a delivery. On a length, outside off, Joe Root looked to defend but the ball nipped back in sharply and went off something behind to the keeper. India went up in an appeal for a caught behind but the umpire stood firm. The keeper, a couple of fielders, the captain and the bowler got together for a chat and everyone opined that there was a noise. But no one was 100 per cent sure whether it was bat or pad. Bumrah is heard on the stump mic asking Gill to go for the review but the captain goes on gut instincts and does not take the review. Good decision. UltraEdge says that the noise was off the pad while even if the appeal had been for LBW, the impact was outside off. Another great decision.

OUT! CAUGHT BEHIND! Neither English opener manages to get to his century and Anshul Kamboj gets his MAIDEN WICKET IN TESTS! This has been a better spell from the debutant as compared to his first, although it has seen just 7 balls. But his previous over seemed very promising and he has managed to get a set batter. Fractionally short, outside off, Ben Duckett latches onto the cut but there is extra bounce on this delivery. The lift surprises the left hander and he only manages an outside edge. It flies through to the substitute keeper, Dhruv Jurel, who makes no mistake. Kambhoj is pumped up and just like Crawley, does not want to go! There is no doubt in this dismissal regarding the carry or anything but just the fact that he came so close to his century, is making him want to stay out there. Probably hoping for a change in decision or luck. He eventually starts to trudge off, for an entertaining 94 (100) and England are 197/2, trailing by 161!

OUT! CAUGHT! That extra ball has worked wonders for India as they get a breakthrough finally and break this monumental 166-run stand. Jadeja has flighted it and pitches it full and around off, enticing the batter to go for it again. Zak Crawley comes forward and looks to drive it but plays it away from his body, too. The ball catches the outside edge and goes low towards the first slip, where KL Rahul remains alert as he goes low in front of himself and pouches it just above the ground. The square leg umpire refers it upstairs to find out whether it is a clean catch or not.

Is that out? The catch at first slip has been referred upstairs to check whether it is fairly taken or not. The third umpire finds it convincing and gives it an OUT.

FOUR! Neatly done! Flighted, full and around off, Zak Crawley goes across on his knees now and sweeps it to deep backward square leg for a boundary. His long reach has worked! Uh...Oh! Jadeja has overstepped. It is called a NO BALL.
