The deadline for announcing the provisional squad for Champions Trophy is tomorrow (January 12). If the reports are true, India will announce the squad later. However, no official update has been given which means the squad could get announced on Sunday.

All-rounder Axar Patel has been named vice-captain for the T20I series vs England. Hardik Pandya is in the squad but it remains a question why he hasn't been named Suryakumar Yadav's deputy.

An Indian Express report suggests that pacer Mohammed Shami has been picked for the T20I series against England starting on January 22 in India.

A Times of India report suggests that BCCI are looking for other options in place of Ravindra Jadeja who retired from T20Is last year. This means he could get dropped from the Champions Trophy squad.

England tour of India will begin on January 22 and it will start with the T20I series first. Later on, 3-ODIs will be played between the two giants. India are likely to pick a similar squad for the Champions Trophy which they will pick for England ODIs.

Arshdeep Singh made his case strong with a sensational spell in Vijay Hazare Trophy. He took two wickets including CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad in his first two overs.

Team India will all their Champions Trophy games in Dubai and if they qualify for knockout, they will also take place in Dubai only. Pakistan will face New Zealand at Karachi in the first game of the tournament on February 19.

Varun Chakravarthy and Nitish Kumar Reddy could be surprise picks for the Champions Trophy following their sensational performances in recent times. Team India is under transition and surely they will be some harsh calls made for the tournament and England tour.

Fast-bowler Mayank Yadav will miss the England series which includes five T20Is and three ODIs due to injury, reports TOI.

"He's suffering from a back injury and is unlikely to be fit for the England series. He hasn't even been named amongst the probables for Delhi's first Ranji match of the second leg against Saurashtra from January 23," a source in the BCCI told TOI.

Jasprit Bumrah is a key figure for India and his recovery in time is crucial for the Champions Trophy. He will rest with other seniors like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli during the England tour of India. Fans and management would be hoping the pacer gets fully fit for the tournament.

KL Rahul will play the England ODIs ahead of the Champions Trophy as per a report from Times of India. BCCI have rejected Rahul's request to rest for the England tour.

"The selectors initially decided to rest Rahul, who plays in the middle order and is a wicketkeeper in the ODIs, from the entire white-ball series against England at home. However, they had a rethink and the BCCI has now asked him to play in the ODI series so that he gains some match practice ahead of the Champions Trophy in February," the Times of India quoted a source as saying.

The deadline to announce the provisional squad for the Champions Trophy 2025 next month is Sunday (January 12). BCCI, the Indian cricket team board could request ICC to extend the date.

"The medical team is optimistic about Shami's fitness and he is expected to be a part of the squad for the home series and the Champions Trophy. Shami's progress since his right heel surgery has been satisfactory but swelling on his knee delayed his return and he was ruled out of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy," A Telegraph report said today.

As per the reports, it looks like Shami could finally make a comeback in Indian jersey for the white-ball series against England at home.
