'Before Test Gautam Gambhir messed up XI, after the win Shubman Gill era begins': Ex-KKR star attacks critics

Manvinder Bisla, a former wicketkeeper-batsman for the Kolkata Knight Riders, blasted the critics who attacked India head coach Gautam Gambhir following the loss to England in the first Test. Under the captaincy of Shubman Gill, Team India lost the series opener at Headingley but won the second Test in Birmingham by an impressive 336 runs. In addition, it was Gill's first victory as India's new Test captain and their first victory at Edgbaston in 58 years. Gill scored 430 runs and won Player of the Match.

Following India's victory, Bisla took to X to attack social media users who blamed Gambhir for the first Test's defeat while denying him credit for the second match's triumph. "Before the Test: @GautamGambhir messed up the XI. After the win: @ShubmanGill era begins. Narratives change faster than the scorecard. PS: Both are leaders - credit goes to whole team for this famous win," wrote Bisla.

Bisla played for KKR between 2011 and 2014, when Gambhir was his captain. His most noteworthy innings was against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the 2012 IPL final, when KKR won their first title, scoring 89 off 48 balls.

Meanwhile, this was the first time that the Indian cricket team broke through England's stronghold at Edgbaston. India had lost seven games and drawn one at the venue in their previous eight efforts. But Gill and Co. ended the trend and defeated Ben Stokes' team convincingly, reducing the much-anticipated BazzBall to dust.

"All the things we spoke about after the first game, we were spot on with all of those things. Our bowling and fielding was tremendous to see. On this kind of wicket, we knew if we get 400-500 on this kind of wicket, we'll be in the game. Not every time we're going to drop that many catches that we did in Headingley," said Gill after the victory.
