Hinglaj Mata Temple in Balochistan: Assam CM highlights sacred Shakti Peeth where Goddess Sati’s Head fell

Hinglaj Mata Temple in Balochistan: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has drawn attention to a deeply revered Hindu temple located across the border in Pakistan’s Balochistan region. Speaking on Thursday, he said that the Hinglaj Mata Temple—considered one of the 51 Shakti Peethas—is a spiritually powerful site for millions of devotees.

Why is Hinglaj Mata Temple Important?

Shakti Peethas are holy places dedicated to Goddess Sati, the divine consort of Lord Shiva. Each temple is believed to be located where different parts of Sati’s body fell to Earth, and Hinglaj Mata Temple is known as the sacred spot where her head fell. This makes it one of the most important centres of devotion for followers of Shaktism, a tradition that worships the divine feminine energy.

Nestled in the rocky landscape of Hingol National Park, the temple is surrounded by natural beauty and spiritual energy. “It is believed that the head of Goddess Sati fell here, making this place one of the holiest sites in Shaktism,” the chief minister said in a post on X.

The temple attracts pilgrims from across India and beyond. Despite its remote desert location, communities like the Sindhis, Bhavsars, and Charans have made difficult journeys to seek blessings at this shrine for generations. Their devotion shows the strength of faith and the enduring cultural ties that connect people to the land.

A Temple Respected by All

Interestingly, Hinglaj Mata Temple is not only respected by Hindus but also by local communities in Balochistan. It is affectionately known as the "Nani Mandir" by the Baloch people, showing a rare example of mutual respect and shared cultural space. “The region also reminds us of the ancient Hindu presence in this land, long before the partition of the subcontinent,” Sarma added.

Balochistan: A Land of Conflict

While the temple offers spiritual peace, the region itself continues to face unrest. Balochistan is one of Pakistan’s most troubled provinces, with ongoing protests and demands for autonomy. Local leaders have raised concerns about suppression by the Pakistani government.

According to The Balochistan Post, the recent discovery of three dead bodies in separate districts—Panjgur, Washuk, and Kachhi—has once again highlighted the area’s instability. In one instance, a man’s body was found in the Pirey Jahlag area, believed to have been deliberately targeted. Police are still investigating the cases.

In the midst of these tensions, the Hinglaj Mata Temple continues to shine as a symbol of faith, unity, and spiritual power. It is a place where devotion overcomes distance, where different communities share respect, and where history continues to live through prayer and belief.

This sacred temple reminds us that even in places touched by difficulty, the light of devotion can endure—uniting hearts across borders and generations.
