While the administration pursued the matter, public responses online largely expressed support for the doctor.

A government doctor posted in Shamli, Uttar Pradesh, faced departmental action after a video of him dancing with his fiancée inside a room on the hospital premises spread widely across social media. The footage showed Dr Afkar Siddiqui dancing to the song "Dum Dum" from the film "Band Baaja Baaraat", with the pair dancing together in what appeared to be a duty room.

The clip showed the couple smiling, turning, and moving in time with the music. The recording drew rapid attention online, generating thousands of views within hours. Reports stated that the doctor was dancing because he was happy for his engagement.

After the video came to the notice of district health authorities, the Chief Medical Officer of Shamli issued a notice to Dr Siddiqui asking him to clarify why he had been dancing in the space shown in the footage. Officials confirmed that the matter was under examination. In addition to the notice, the hospital administration removed him from emergency duty and vacated his government-provided accommodation. A written report was sent to senior health officials for further review.

Medical Officer Virendra Singh commented on the action taken, stating: “Such behaviour is unacceptable and will not be tolerated in any government facility. Appropriate action has been taken, and the matter has been escalated for further departmental review.”

While the administration pursued the matter, public responses online largely expressed support for the doctor. Many users questioned the need for disciplinary measures and argued that the moment shown in the clip did not warrant official intervention.

One comment read: “Dancing is prohibited for duty doctors? When there was no emergency for his service!”

Another user asked, “This is an extreme overreaction, they are firing him because he is dancing?”
