24-year-old Indian student drowns on his birthday in Toronto lake, family seeks govt help

The authorities were informed by his father, A. Ravi, following which rescue teams were dispatched. However, it took over 10 hours for the teams to reach the lake. Praneeth’s body was recovered later on Sunday evening.

Indian Student A Praneeth drowned while swimming in Clear Lake in Toronto

In an unfortunate turn of events, a 24-year-old Indian student drowned while swimming with a couple of friends in Toronto, Canada on his birthday. The student identified as A Praneeth from Meerpet, Telangana had moved to Canada a few years back to pursue his Master's degree. He had completed his Master's and was looking for a job currently.

According to a News18 report, Praneeth went on a holiday with friends and brother on Sunday to a cottage near Clear Lake. While swimming in the lake he did not return to the lake bed.

The authorities were informed by his father, A. Ravi, following which rescue teams were dispatched. However, it took over 10 hours for the teams to reach the lake. Praneeth’s body was recovered later on Sunday evening.

 

The terrible news of Praneeth's sudden demise was broken by a friend of his brother. The family is currently coordinating with local authorities and friends in Canada to facilitate the repatriation of his body.

Praneeth’s father is deeply mourning the loss of his son. Praneeth had relocated to Canada in 2019 for his studies, with his elder brother joining him in 2022.

The family is now seeking government assistance to expedite the return of their beloved son to Hyderabad.
