Incessant rains in MP, several rivers in spate
Several rivers are in spate in Madhya Pradesh and many low-lying areas inundated following incessant rains in various parts of the state, officials said today.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast "very heavy to extremely heavy showers" in 18 districts till tomorrow morning.
Heavy rains in last three days caused water-logging in low-lying areas as several rivers and streams were in spate. (PTI)

Maharashtra: CM Relief Fund gets Rs 20 crore in just two days
Responding to Maharashtra CM Fadnavis' appeal for financial aid for flood victims, people from different walks of life and institutions have donated Rs 20 crore in just two days in the CM Relief Fund, an official said yesterday.
The Chief Minister Relief Fund has received Rs 20 crore in two days and the donors range from industries to individuals to political parties, he said. (PTI)

CM P Vijayan reaches out to Tamil Nadu via Twitter
Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan has appealed for assistance to his rain-ravaged state, where 95 people have been killed in various incidents, with the leader tweeting in Tamil to present the grim picture.
Vijayan tweeting in Tamil seemed to be an attempt at reaching out to the people of Tamil Nadu, as hinted by an official in his office.
The official in the Kerala Chief Minister's Office (CMO) said Vijayan tweeted in Tamil because Tamil Nadu was a neighbouring state.

Flood-battered Kolhapur, Sangli limping back to normalcy
Life is slowly inching back to normalcy in flood-ravaged Kolhapur and Sangli as flood waters have receded in these districts of Maharashtra and the key rivers there are now also flowing below the danger mark, officials said today.
Till Tuesday, 6.45 lakh people were shifted to safer locations in Kolhapur and Sangli, which have been the worst affected by flooding following heavy rains in western Maharashtra and Konkan region. (PTI)

In the past seven days, the Indian Navy has rescued over 14,000 people from flood-affected areas of Maharashtra, Goa and Karnataka under operation 'Varsha Rahat'.
As many as 41 Navy teams were deployed in difficult terrains of the three states where they used advanced light helicopters and also boats to reach the marooned areas, an official said. (PTI)

The death toll in flood-affected states mounted to 225 yesterday. As many as 91 have died in Kerala since August 8. More rain has been forecast there.
Weather in Karnataka and Maharashtra has improved, allowing authorities to speed up rescue and relief operations. As many as 54 have died in Karnataka, 49 in Maharashtra and 31 in Gujarat in floods and related incidents.
In Odisha, a flood-like situation was witnessed in parts of the state yesterday and the forecast is of more rains in the next two days.
