A woman took to X to narrate her harrowing experience after she was allegedly groped by a man in Bengaluru. Stuti Singh shared her ordeal in a long thread and even shared a video of the man, who was seen hiding his face.
Singh was being dropped by a friend near her house when the incident happened. As soon as she got down near her home, the man came and groped her from behind. She called her friend immediately and asked him to stop the man before his rode away.
“In this video, the man is accepting what he had done. My friend was there to catch hold of him and had it not been the case, we never know what all could have happened and he would have not been caught. We called the Bangalore Police on site and he was taken to jail,” she wrote.
However, Singh shared that she won’t be filing an FIR against the perpetrator due to the “troubles that lie ahead”. She was also not willing to go through the mental stress of court proceedings thereafter.
"I am unable to file an FIR because of all the trouble that lies ahead of it. The number of court trials and everything involved would mentally harass me is what the people in my neighbourhood suggested who had come on site to help me," she wrote, adding, "This man is unfortunately being left out again because I am not going to file an FIR."
Last night in #NammaBengaluru a friend of mine dropped me near my house and as I was about to open the gate, this man came and groped me from behind and started running. Questioning the safety of women in Bengaluru and in India, Singh shared that the man was neither drunk nor a child. He was fully aware of what he was doing. She mentioned that she had filed a complaint against him.
“To everyone asking why did I leave him? I did not, I have filed a complaint against him and he has accepted what he did in front of cops. The reason behind posting this is spreading awareness and how there are loopholes in the Constitution that would anyway get him out," she added.
The post, since being shared on Tuesday, has garnered close to seven lakh views. Social media users expressed their concern but also urged Singh to file an FIR with the Bengaluru Police.
