The ITC Maurya in Delhi is abuzz with activity as preparations reached their peak to welcome India's triumphant T20 World Cup cricket team. The victorious squad arrived at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport this morning, having been delayed in Barbados due to Hurricane Beryl.

The Men in Blue, led by Rohit Sharma, clinched the T20 World Cup 2024 title by defeating South Africa in the final held in Barbados. However, their return was delayed by the category 4 hurricane. BCCI secretary Jay Shah arranged a special Air India flight to bring the team and their families back home safely.

The flight, which departed from Barbados yesterday, landed in Delhi this morning. The team will spend the night at the luxurious ITC Maurya in the Chanakyapuri area before heading to their respective homes.

In honour of the team’s achievement, the ITC Maurya has planned a grand reception, including a special breakfast and a meticulously crafted cake. The cake, designed in the colours of Team India's jersey and featuring a replica of the T20 trophy made from chocolate, serves as a tribute to their success.

Executive Chef Shivneet Pahoja, speaking to ANI, provided insights into the preparations. "The cake is in the colour of the Team's jersey. Its highlight is this trophy, it may look like an actual trophy but this is made out of chocolate...This is our welcome to the winning team...We have arranged the breakfast in the special venue and we will offer them a special breakfast," he said.

Chef Pahoja revealed that the breakfast menu will highlight the best of Indian cuisine, taking into account the players’ favourite dishes such as chole bhature. "Since the team has been travelling extensively, we wanted to give them a taste of home with their favourite dishes," he added.

Emphasising ITC Maurya’s commitment to sustainability, Chef Pahoja noted that the breakfast will also feature healthy options made with millets, balancing indulgence with nutrition. "ITC Maurya believes in sustainability, so the breakfast includes millet-based dishes. There is a mix of healthy and indulgent options," he said.

He also added that there would be culinary treats like nice chocolates in their rooms to make them feel at home post winning the coveted trophy.
