There are a plethora of trends floating around TikTok and Instagram and they go viral in no time. Now, there’s a new relationship trend that has caught the fancy of social media users and it is named after a fruit. The ‘Orange Peel Theory’ is a brand new test on the internet and #orangepeeltheory has now over 24.6 million views.
What is orange peel theory?
According to a report by Independent, the theory says that if your partner peels your orange for you, without being asked, it is a sign that they truly love and care for you. A partner who does little things to make your life easier – even something you can do yourself – is a keeper. It is just about doing something for the other person just because you can, not because you have to.
One of the many videos on the theory that have gone viral on TikTok featured a baker named Jenna. She posted a video of her boyfriend giving her a container of eggs with all the yolks separated from the whites. He did the whole container because she had mentioned a few days before about how she was struggling with it due to long nails.
“This man took time to pre-separate the egg whites from the yolks for me. He saw me! Never thought egg white would make me cry.”
However, the orange peel theory doesn’t only apply to romantic relationships. People have also been sharing examples of the same for family and friends. “The orange peel theory is real because my dad has been peeling them for me since I was five,” a TikTok user wrote.
Another person shared a heartwarming experience with their mother. “The orange peel theory for me is my immigrant mother and how she doesn’t say I love you with words but instead with peeled oranges, chopped fruit, bowls of late night instant ramen, and hot tea. It took me a long time to understand her love language and now I know that for her one peeled orange equals one thousand ‘I love yous’”.
