A new and troubling trend in human resources is emerging, termed "quiet termination." This practice, which can border on constructive dismissal or forced resignation, involves creating an intolerable work environment that drives employees to quit. By fostering a toxic atmosphere, employers indirectly force resignations, sparking significant concern among professionals.
A LinkedIn user recently shed light on this phenomenon, describing how it is increasingly being adopted by both large and small companies. “What is forced resignation?” the user asked, explaining that when a company cannot afford to pay an employee adequately, it may create conditions that compel the employee to resign, despite satisfactory performance. The user highlighted that this tactic is prevalent across various businesses and has adversely affected many workers.
"Trust me when I say this: It can literally hinder your finances to the core. Companies are not all concerned about you; they will hire and fire in bulk," the user wrote. He emphasised the harsh reality of the corporate world, noting that employees are easily replaceable. The post concluded with advice: “Please stop considering your company a priority and working like nothing is above this."
The post resonated with many, garnering similar sentiments from other LinkedIn users. One individual stressed the importance of mentoring and the right work environment for holistic growth. She noted, “Mentoring and the right environment are essential for holistic growth." Without proper guidance, she explained, employees might feel like "a small fish in a large ocean."
The need for more leaders and mentors was also highlighted. "A mentor helps you overcome challenges quickly, whereas learning on your own could take years. Mentoring is crucial for rapid growth and success and creates a win-win for both employees and employers," she remarked.
Another user shared a personal experience, stating that they could "100% relate" to the situation. "Yup. Sad reality of our times. Seen this happen a lot," one user noted.
Many others in the comments section expressed feeling trapped in similar situations.
