Djokovic had referred to his defeat to the Italian as "one of the worst Grand Slam matches I've ever played".
"He outplayed me completely today. "I was shocked at my level in a bad way. There was not much I was doing right in the first two sets. I guess this is one of the worst Grand Slam matches I've ever played. At least that I remember."
"To be honest, the whole tournament I haven't really played close to my best. I didn't feel really myself on the court during this tournament. One can say semi-finals is a great result, of course, but I always expect the highest of myself," the Serbian said.
Sinner went on to win the title on Sunday after beating Russia's Daniil Medvedev 3-6, 3-6, 6-4,6-3, 6-3 to clinch his maiden Grand Slam title at Rod Laver Arena.
Djokovic had praised India's Rohan Bopanna after the Indian became the oldest player to be ranked number one in the world, for the first time, at the age of 43 after he and his partner Matthew Ebden defeated Argentina's Maximo Gonzalez and Andres Molteni in the quarterfinals of the tournament.
