The ICC will visit Kolkata's Eden Gardens on February 7 to assess the venue's readiness to host its three remaining World Cup matches, the governing body said on Monday, while confirming the India v England game would go to Bangalore.
The International Cricket Council announced last week it would take the Feb. 27 clash between India and England away from Eden Gardens because of a delay in renovation work. The ICC said on Monday it had accepted the Indian Board's proposal to move the match to Bangalore, adding that it would make a further check on progress in Kolkata next week."In a letter to the BCCI yesterday, the ICC outlined a schedule of works that needed to be carried out at Eden Gardens ahead of the ground's other scheduled fixtures on 15, 18 and 20 March," read an ICC statement."As such, an inspection team will visit Kolkata again on 7 February to assess progress in line with that schedule."The Indian cricket board (BCCI) on Sunday named Bangalore as the alternative venue for the match after an ICC inspection team ruled out Eden Gardens on Thursday."This decision now clarifies and gives us certainty over the fixture," ICC chief executive Haroon Lorgat said in the statement.Officials of the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB), which has headquarters at Eden Gardens, were not immediately available for comment.(Reporting by Amlan Chakraborty; Editing by Justin Palmer/Kevin Fylan; To query or comment on this story email sportsfeedback@thomsonreuters.com) Discover the latest Business News, Sensex, and Nifty updates.
