In a tragic turn of events, a girl died after eating cake on her birthday last week. In a video that has been widely circulated online, 10-year-old Manvi was seen cutting her birthday cake with her entire family. However, a few hours after consuming the cake, the entire family fell ill, including her younger sister.

The cake was ordered from ‘Cake Kanha’, a bakery in Patiala. According to Manvi’s grandfather Harban Lal, she cut the cake around 7 pm on March 24. In the clip that has gone viral online, the victim was seen cutting the chocolate cake while surrounded by her family.

Lal said that Manvi’s 8-year-old sister started vomiting soon after and Manvi started frothing at the mouth.

At around 2 am she asked for water and said that she was feeling extremely thirsty. Afterwards, she went to sleep. Her family checked on her around 4 am and found her entire body cold. They rushed to the hospital where she was put on oxygen and an ECG (electrocardiogram) was performed. However, she was soon declared dead by the doctors, Lal said.

As per a report in NDTV, the family has alleged that the chocolate cake ordered online contained a poisonous substance. An FIR has been filed against the bakery owner and a case been registered under sections 273 and 304A of the Indian Penal Code. "The postmortem of the body has been done. A sample from the cake has also been sent for testing. We are awaiting the reports," Lal said.

The Punjab Police said that investigation has been initiated based on the complaint filed on March 25 and further action will be taken post the FSL (Forensic Science Laboratory) report.
