Several cases of unruly passenger behaviour inside the Delhi Metro have cropped up recently – the latest in this long line being an incident involving a man smoking inside the train.
Footage that has been widely circulated online shows the middle-aged man lighting a beedi inside the Delhi Metro. The man was filmed striking a matchstick inside a coach full of people and lighting up his beedi. He then dropped the burn-out matchstick on the floor of the metro.
A passenger sitting next to the man was seen getting up and moving away. Others inside the metro were also filmed looking at the beedi-smoking passenger in astonishment. According to media reports, some people objected to his behaviour and tried approaching him. However, the man said he was travelling with a ticket.

“We conduct random checking through flying squads to detect any such objectionable behaviour. We appeal to the public to instantly bring up such instances to our notice so that immediate action can be taken,” the DMRC said in a statement, according to India Today.
Delhi Metro passengers are expected to abide by certain rules while travelling on the public transport system. Smoking inside trains or at the station is strictly prohibited and is considered a punishable offence. Similarly, passengers are also not allowed to eat inside the metro or squat on the metro floor. Playing music without earphones and photography inside the metro is also forbidden.
