Indigo staff dresses up Lord Ram, Sita and Lakshman for inaugural flight to Ayodhya

Indigo staff members dressed up as Lord Ram, Sita and Lakshman to flag off the airline’s inaugural flight between Ahmedabad and Ayodhya, a viral video shows.

Indigo staff members dressed as Lord Ram, Sita and Lakshman arrived at Ahmedabad airport on January 11 to curious glances and a smattering of applause from gathered passengers. A video shows one Indigo employee, dressed as Lord Ram, making the boarding announcement.

Another employee, also in costume, kneels in front of him with his head bowed and hands folded. Indigo staffers dressed as Lakshman and Sita also stand at the gate to greet passengers.


The temple town of Ayodhya in Uttar Pradesh is expected to see a huge influx of visitors ahead of the Ram Temple consecration ceremony on January 22. The first phase of the Ram Temple is nearing completion and Prime Minister Narendra Modi will take part in its consecration ceremony.

Several dignitaries, politicians, business leaders and celebrities are also expected to attend.

IndiGo, which has started services between Ayodhya and Delhi from January 11, will operate flights between Ayodhya and Ahmedabad thrice a week. Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia flagged off the flight from Ayodhya to Ahmedabad virtually from the national capital on January 11. According to the Union minister, Ayodhya airport will be expanded and the runway will be extended that will allow landing of bigger aircraft and operation of international flights.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has said that around 100 chartered flights are expected at the Ayodhya airport for the consecration ceremony of the Ram temple on January 22.
