A video showing an Indian woman worshipping a Labubu doll as a “Chinese god” has gone viral on social media, sparking a mix of amusement and disbelief online.

The clip, shared by user Oppressor (@TyrantOppressor) on X (formerly Twitter), shows a girl handing the quirky plush toy to her mother, claiming it is a deity from China. TThe woman first inspects the doll and then introduces it to her altar, chanting "Ram Ram ji" as the Labubu appears to greet the Indian gods. The woman then shows the doll to another family member calling it "a god from China". The man too sought blessings from the toy.

The video has garnered over one million views.

Social media users reacted to the incident with a blend of satire and commentary on blind faith and viral culture.

"Someone said it, people believed it, now it’s a god. Reality of idol worshippers," commented Shoaib Mohammed (@shoaibpage). Another X user Amarendra Nath Bokshi (@anbokshi) added, "It shows how Hindus respect all forms of God and faiths irrespective of it origin and geography.

Then memes followed.

Labubu, originally a character from Hong Kong artist Kasing Lung’s 2015 book series The Monsters, became a global collectible phenomenon after its toy debut in 2019 via Pop Mart. Known for its mischievous expression and sold in “blind boxes,” Labubu toys have become highly sought-after, with rare editions fetching prices upwards of Rs 55,000 on resale platforms. A human-sized Labubu sculpture recently sold for Rs 1.2 crore in Beijing.

Celebrity endorsements from Blackpink’s Lisa, Rihanna, and Kim Kardashian have further fuelled the craze, with over 300 variants now in circulation.
