A quirky new trend is sweeping India's metro party scenes: "fake wedding celebrations." These elaborate, ticketed events offer all the pomp and glamour of a traditional Indian wedding – live bands, dhol players, food counters, vibrant decorations, and selfie booths – but notably, without an actual bride and groom.
Noida is set to host one such event at Trippy Tequila this Saturday, July 12, starting at 8 pm. Guests are encouraged to don their finest ethnic wear and prepare for four hours of non-stop celebration, complete with baraat-style entrances, mock varmala ceremonies, and choreographed sangeet performances. Tickets are available on BookMyShow, with a female cover charge of Rs 999 and a stag/couple charge of Rs 1,499.
The invite for the event went viral on X, with some users calling the concept "wild".
Now you can pay ₹1499 and attend a fake wedding. No dulha, no rishtedaar, you come, take the vibe and go home. This covers food, dhol, dancing, and Instagram worthy pictures. Wild concept! pic.twitter.com/CE3b197lBV— Aaraynsh (@aaraynsh) July 9, 2025
The concept aims to strip away the "financial and emotional baggage" of real weddings while retaining their cultural energy. These parties are gaining traction among those who simply wish to experience the joy and festivities of an Indian wedding without the personal commitments.
Reactions on X have been varied, reflecting the novelty of the trend. Darshan Rajguru (@DarshanRajguru5) commented on a similar event happening in Berlin, while Monica (@musing_monica) quipped, "Good for people who don’t get invited for weddings." Another user, Seendrella (@ishag_talks) added, "Yeah, in Nagpur also fake wedding events are happening." Anunay (@anunay_24) mused on the "wild" possibility of someone actually turning up with a pandit to get genuinely married for under Rs 1,499.
While these events provide an outlet for dressing up and dancing, they underscore a broader desire for cultural celebration in a no-strings-attached format, appealing to urbanites looking for unique social experiences.
